I’ve certainly predicted a fair few hits and misses over the last few months here at Remote Patrolled but when I get it wrong I go in with all guns blazing!
Sure I may have predicted that Hot In Cleveland and Body Of Proof would be hits and the likes of Marcel’s Quantum Kitchen, Live To Dance, No Ordinary Family and Outlaw were all heading for flopsville – but I have to hold my hands up and admit when it came to NBC’s Voice I got it VERY wrong!
A few weeks ago I posted my Five Reasons Why The Voice Is Going To Flop and what happened! The show’s only gone on to become the biggest new hit of the season, far buzzier than the revamped American Idol and bigger than even hot sophomore hits Glee and Modern Family. Plus ratings climbed from week 1 to week 2 – and that hardly ever happens these days!
So what did NBC do right, can the rosy ratings continue and what does this mean for the competition…? Here’s an update…

THE VOICE: Oops it looks like we might have boo booed here at Remote Patrolled!
A few weeks ago I predicted that NBC’s new music competition series would be a big old bomb. But though I’m going to reserve full judgment until the week 2 figures come in it’s certainly looking good for the show at the moment!
Tuesday night’s premiere debuted with a strong 11.77 million viewers and a terrific 5.1 18-49 share – the second highest of the week, behind American Idol. Significantly The Voice grew its audience over the course of its two-hour opener AND a repeat the next night also performed well with 6.14 million viewers and a 2.2 youth share. For NBC these are amazing figures. And the show even put a dent into Glee which despite a 90 minute special (intended to hurt The Voice’s ratings) actually hit a season low with 8.61 million and a 3.4 18-49 share.
I think a follow up post may be in order soon!

Okay everyone – here we go!
NBC’s The Voice premiered last night on NBC and later today we’ll get the first ratings in. So will the show be a big old bomb as I predicted or will American Idol finally have some competition on its hands?
Personally I think the show will debut to decent numbers – around 8 million viewers and a 3.2 18-49 share – but just like Paula Abdul’s Live To Dance it’ll slip week after week and be dead by the start of summer. I’m afraid I still stick by many of the comments in my original post – and with Fox scheduling a 90 minute Glee as a spoiler I think there’s an additional reason the show may struggle in the ratings. But what about the show itself – was it any good.
So here’s the thing – I watched about 45 minutes of The Voice last night and thought it was okay. It’s certainly not a train wreck and the format itself – with its revolving chairs – played less goofy that I thought it would.

It’s Keep Or Cancel time again – and this time around we’re talking about NBC, the once mighty network king that’s had a rough ride over the last few years.
But things are looking up for the network with some interesting new projects slated for the Fall – I’m excited for Smash, the behind the scenes Broadway show, A Mann’s World, set in an LA hair salon and the much talked about Playboy TV series. Beats your usual cop shows!
But first NBC has to decide what to keep for the Fall – and as you can see from the very short list of already renewed shows there’s not much Must See TV on the network currently. So what stays – and what goes? Here’s the Remote Patrolled take…

Who Do You Think You Are
By now you’ve probably heard all about The Voice, NBC’s latest entry into the music competition world.
Hosted by Carson Daly and featuring Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera as judges, the network obviously intends for The Voice to cause some serious damage to the American Idol franchise – and weaken the impending launch of Simon Cowell’s X Factor.
But while I’d be the first to concede that The Voice has a starry line up and shows more promise than many other network music shows – yep we all remember The One on ABC – I have to be honest, I think the show is going to flop big time. And here’s why!
