Has Ringer Redeemed Itself?
Mar 26th
Looks like one of my favorites is back on form!
Towards the end of last year I questioned whether Ringer, The CW’s twisty turny twins saga, had painted itself into too much of a corner with it’s increasingly bizarre storylines. You remember how ridiculous Ringer had become – from a tired student teacher seduction to a cop who can’t even kill at point blank range to a dead body that actually moved on camera! What was this – a daytime soap opera?
So when Ringer returned after an ill-advised holiday hiatus I must admit I was in half a minute about whether to continue watching. And it seems I wasn’t alone – Ringer lost quite a chunk of its audience following its break and is now heading for an end of season 1 cancellation.
But I have to say I’m glad I did stick with Ringer as the show has definitely re-found its form in the last few weeks. So what happened? Well for starters Ringer started adding some more depth to its supporting cast. Siobhan’s dull and virtuous husband Andrew has suddenly become a little less squeaky clean, guilty of financial mismanagement and even possibly murder. Step-daughter Juliet has gone beyond her initial More >

Has Ringer Become Ridiculous?

Don’t you just hate it when this happens?
You get into a show, investing time into a series and then just when you’ve passed the point of no return it starts to go south! Unfortunately that’s what’s starting to happen with one of my Fall favorites, Ringer.
I’ve been in DVR catch up mode this last week – and so I only just caught the Ringer Fall finale. And I hate to say it, but the Sarah Michelle Gellar saga is in imminent danger of collapsing under its own weight.
Okay so Ringer wasn’t exactly realistic from the start! The tale of twin sisters who swap identities after one of the twins goes missing, but guess what, she’s still alive and conspiring against her sibling – was never going to be believable TV. But I don’t mind suspending my disbelief to a certain extent for the entertainment value of a show.
But there’s crazy – and then there’s just plain insulting!

Okay – we’re now three weeks into the Fall TV season and it’s time to champion another of the new series currently unspooling on our screens.
Last time around I raved about Revenge, ABC’s fabulous Hamptons set soap that’s quickly becoming a cult favorite in the blogosphere.
Well this week’s pick isn’t all that dissimilar either. Yep, it’s Ringer, the twisty, turny twins drama that’s currently the best thing airing on The CW (not the highest of compliments it must be said!)
Once again I’ll state from the outset that I’m not making any great artistic claims for the Sarah Michelle Gellar saga. It’s not going to win any acting or writing awards and in places the show is downright corny (especially any scenes involving spoiled daughter Juliet)
But Ringer is also enormous fun – a totally ridiculous contrivance of a show that at any moment could topple over under the weight of its multiple storylines. One thing’s for sure – it’s certainly not boring!
