SNL Digital Short: Lady Gaga’s Threeway
May 22nd
As you probably heard, last night’s Saturday Night Live was the season finale, so the veteran comedy series pulled out the big guns to say goodbye in style.
Hosting the show was Justin Timberlake, while Lady Gaga (plugging that Born That Way album like crazy) was the night’s musical guest.
Together the two teamed up with Andy Samberg for the show’s latest digital short, a sequel to the famous ‘Dick In A Box‘ and ‘Motherlover‘ musical numbers.
This one’s called Threeway and features Samberg and Timberlake sharing a Lady Gaga sandwich, but of course ‘it’s not gay when it’s in a threeway’
Personally Motherlover remains my favorite of the three, mainly because of Susan Sarandon and Patricia Clarkson who really threw themselves into the skit (they also make a cameo here). This one’s okay but Gaga adds little to the mix – and to be honest the lyrics just aren’t that clever – or funny.
But what do you think? And what did you think of the SNL finale in general?

Did You See: Google’s ‘It Gets Better’ Commercial
May 4th
So there I was watching last night’s Glee (not the best of episodes as you’ll see from my Rumours recap) when one of the best adverts of the year leaped out at me!
Did you see it? It was the Google advert promoting the It Gets Better campaign featuring the likes of Anne Hathaway, Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga – and freaking Woody from Toy Story speaking up for tolerance and respect! Wow – how amazing was that – to see an iconic Disney figure promoting gay equality and fighting back against the bullies.
I’m stunned that an advert like this airs in prime-time on American TV – and on Fox no less, sister network to a channel that’s recently been going after Glee as too gay!
Well done Google, Dan Savage and everyone else working with the It Gets Better project. It really does – I promise you! (more…)

Quick Take: Glee ‘Born This Way’
Apr 27th
Just a quick Glee review this week as I had to do double duty with The Voice also launching on the same night!
But what an episode it was… sure Glee still has a heavy handedness in the writing, acting and directing departments that means its points are made with sledgehammer subtlety. But though I’ve been a frequent critic of the show in the past I also have to commend it for tackling important issues like bullying, self-acceptance and sexuality in a way few teen shows do. For all its faults I think it’s a great thing that Glee exists and last night’s show was a prime example.
This week’s episode revolved around the theme of self love with Santana and Dave struggling with their sexuality, Rachel considering a nose job, Emma facing up to her OCD and Quinn’s secret past as an ugly tween revealed. The writing was zippy, especially for Santana, who’s really come into her own these last couple of weeks. And the extra 30 minutes of screen time actually didn’t drag (though let’s be honest, Fox packed in what felt like double the number of commercials to make up the 90 minute show!)

UNITED STATE OF POP 2010: DON’T STOP THE POP
Dec 29th
Yep, I know the headline above is kind of gibberish!
It’s that time of the year again where famed mixer DJ Earworm provides us with a musical and visual montage of the year in music. So check out a mash up of Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Usher, Enrique Iglesias and many more…
We don’t normally cover music here at Remote Patrolled, but since these videos have been playing in heavy rotation on your screens for the last few months we figured it made sense. Though I’ll be perfectly happy never to see those Katy Perry videos again.
Personally I don’t think this mix is a patch on last year’s effort (see below) which flowed brilliantly… but what do you think? A good mix – or a bit of a mess? And what are your favorite – and least favorite – singles of the year?
LADY GAGA WINS MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR
Sep 13th
I don’t know about you but I’m playing catch up this morning – finding out who won what at last night’s MTV Music Video Awards.
Normally I’d watch the show live, but up against the season finale of True Blood (typical of this series – a bit of a Bloody Mess) and Mad Men (as classy as always – check out my recap in The Atlantic) the awards lost out. It’ll be interesting to see if the VMA’s took a ratings hit from True Blood – or vice versa.
Of course now we know what went down – Lindsay Lohan poked fun at herself in an opening sketch with host Chelsea Handler, Kanye West and Taylor Swift made passing references to last year’s on stage altercation and Justin Bieber won for Best New Artist (I have to admit Bieber Fever completely baffles me!)
But the big winner of the night was of course Lady Gaga who took home 8 awards including Best Female Video, Best Collaboration (for Telephone) and the coveted Video of the Year award for Bad Romance…
LADY GAGA ON QVC?
Jul 31st
Has it come to this already? Is Lady Gaga really shilling her goods on QVC? Well I guess someone has to pay for those expensive stage props and disco sticks!
Obviously it’s all a gag – put together by the guys at Electric Spoofaloo who imagine what might happen if pop star extraordinaire Lady Gaga was to take up residency at the world famous shopping network (here renamed the Quality Shopping Channel)
It’s a fun idea and pretty well played, although some of the gags are overdone and the ending becomes a bit too broad. I really like the ‘Lady Gaga Starter Kit’ – and the funny thing is they probably COULD sell something like this at the moment given just how huge Gaga is…
THE TODAY SHOW: LADY GAGA TAKES NEW YORK
Jul 9th
I’m a big Lady Gaga fan but even I have to admit there are times when the pop phenomenon isn’t quite on her game – with live TV performances that feel unrehearsed and technically flawed (see Idol Goes Gaga and Music Meltdown for two such examples)
But this morning’s performance on the Today Show on NBC was truly terrific with Gaga sounding better than I’ve ever heard her live – while still retaining her trademark flamboyance.
Morning show gigs are traditionally tough for music acts. Floor space is limited and the unforgiving glare of sunlight renders most stage set-ups pretty flat… fine if you’re a band like Bon Jovi or a singer like Miley Cyrus – but tough for a performer like Gaga who’s all about spectacle. Yet considering what she had to work with Gaga pulled off a fantastic performance.
Starting with an a cappella rendition of ‘Someone To Watch Over Me‘ Gaga proved her vocal range as she descended to the stage (though someone should have eased up on the smoke machine a little!)
Then it was into a set of Bad Romance, You and I, Alejandro and Teeth. Don’t recognize ‘You and I’ – that’s because it’s a new track of Gaga’s next album – and it too sounded great More >
DON’T F*** WITH THE GAGA
Jun 20th
Here’s a fun viral video doing the rounds today, playing on the recent spat between Lady Gaga and Katy Perry…
As Christina Aguilera has recently learned to her cost – you don’t F with the Gaga! It’s funny cause it’s kind of true…
I think the actress playing Gaga is actually pretty good – ditto the ‘fake’ Russell Brand (but please don’t say ‘Get Him To The Greek’ is a smash. It isn’t.)
I’d love to have seen Gaga take on a third target though… perhaps MIA or Grace Jones – who both recently took shots at the Bad Romance queen…
Anyway – here’s the clip – enjoy!
GLEE: BAD ROMANCE
May 21st
After last week’s BEST EPISODE EVER, here’s a quick preview of the Glee Gang’s upcoming Lady Gaga episode.
I must confess to having already downloaded the two Gaga tracks off Itunes – Bad Romance is terrific – but the Poker Face cover sucks!
Oh well, the costumes here look great – although didn’t I take bets the other week on how long it would be before Kurt ended up in drag (see my Glee’s Gay Problem piece). Way to play into that stereotype!
