Keep Or Cancel? FOX
Mar 28th
It’s Keep Or Cancel time again – and today we’re turning to Fox to take a look at what shows will be coming back in the Fall – and which are heading for the TV graveyard…
Fox is in an interesting place – and one that’s dangerous for a lot of the network’s new shows. Take a look at the LONG list of already renewed shows below… plus add in Simon Cowell’s X Factor, which is likely going to take up between 2-4 hours of primetime each week and THEN add in Terra Nova, the Steven Spielberg produced dinosaur series that’s a lock for the Fall. That doesn’t leave many slots open… so let the battle begin!
NETWORK SCORECARD: FOX
Jan 5th
Our journey through the big five broadcast nets continues – and today it’s Fox’s turn in the spotlight. But how is the network shaping up for the New Year?
WHAT’S WORKING:
AMERICAN IDOL: Down but not out, American Idol is still THE show to beat this spring season. I was a very vocal critic of Season 9, the Season of Suck which crowned a pub singer as the American Idol (whose debut album has sold barely 100,000 copies since NOVEMBER!) Now the show’s biggest star, Simon Cowell, is gone – replaced by untested talents Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. And though we’re promised numerous format changes, few of them seem to be materializing – so expect business as usual in the coming weeks. Still even a bad season of Idol rated as the number one show of the season and the addition of high profile new judges is almost certainly going to guarantee eyeballs for the Season 10 premiere. The real story will be how the show is rating in March and April…
SNEAK PEEK: AMBER TAMBLYN JOINS HOUSE
Nov 3rd
Look who’s back on our screens…
After a break from TV, former Joan of Arcadia star Amber Tamblyn joins HOUSE this coming Monday (Nov 8th) for a multiple episode guest starring stint – while Olivia Wilde shoots the movie Cowboys and Aliens (alongside Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig).
Amber’s been concentrating on her own movies herself recently – though given that the films were Beyond A Reasonable Doubt and the straight to DVD Spring Breakdown, it doesn’t seem to have worked out too well! Not to worry – Amber will also be appearing in Oscar bait 127 Hours alongside James Franco later this month which, together with this high profile guest stint, will almost certainly turn up her career heat…
In House, Amber plays brilliant med student Martha Masters – described by House as ‘the internet with breasts’ – and it looks like she’s going to be bruising quite a few egos during her time on the show.
Of course what House really needs now is a ratings transplant – the show has been slipping all season and simply isn’t the hot show it used to be… it’s still a hit in the 18-49 demo (the last airing scored a 3.6) but year to year ratings are down – More >
