Funny Or Die: Child Star Psychologist
Oct 21st
It’s been a while since we’ve posted a Funny Or Die clip here at Remote Patrolled – but this video today caught my eye.
Check out Mad Men star Kiernan Shipka aka Sally Draper, as she plays psychologist to a range of child stars (of varying ages)
As usual with Funny Or Die videos, there’s a couple of good gags hidden within a far too long sketch – but it’s a kick to see Toddlers And Tiara’s star Eden Wood spoofing herself.
I also liked the dig at Danielle Fishel’s old show The Dish – though I have a feeling quite a lot of people aren’t going to recognize Danielle herself (Boy Meets World is hardly a recent show)
Anyway – here’s Kiernan in action – check it out… (more…)

Funny Or Die: Tori Spelling Is A Gay Hoarder
Jul 22nd
Dear Tori Spelling,
I know you love your gay friends and have been a vocal advocate for gay rights over the years – but sometimes there’s a fine line between promoting a cause and being patronizing. I think you may have just crossed that line!
I checked out your recent Funny Or Die video, featuring yourself and husband Dean in a spoof of the A&E hit Hoarders. The ‘gag’ was that your house wasn’t overrun by trash / collectibles – but instead you’re drowning in all the gay people you’ve ‘hoarded’ over the years.
Sure the concept made me smile and I know your heart is in the right place but honey there’s just something a little bit off about this video.
Maybe it’s the way you treat gay people like pets? Maybe it’s the fact that almost all the gay people you seem to befriend conform to a flamboyant and sexless stereotype? Or maybe it’s just that the video is WAY too long and far outstays its welcome? (Let’s not even get into the acting)
I loved you in your Beverly Hills 90210 days and I know there’s no malice here… but can you imagine a similar video, featuring Jennie Garth hoarding black people eating More >

Mad Men And Fast Trains
Mar 9th
Erm, does this video really belong on Funny or Die?
Check out Mad Men stars Rich Sommer and Vincent Kartheiser in this rather bizarre video appeal for high speed trains, launched on the comedy website today.
It’s great seeing the guys reprise their iconic Mad Men characters but you do kind of have to wonder why?
The clip is pretty rambling and pointless and for me struggles to make much sense – it’s only really at the end that I figured out what it was all about!
But what do you think? Am I missing something here? And do you really want to see the Mad Men guys hawking causes (or products) or does it kind of cheapen the whole show….

Funny Or Die: Nuthin’ But A Glee Thing
Jan 12th
This clip was doing the rounds yesterday but passed us by a little… I think we had a lucky escape!
A few months ago we used to post numerous Funny or Die videos here at Remote Patrolled but recently the site has become a bit of a corporate shill – used by TV shows, movies, faded celebrities and reality stars to garner attention.
Case in point – this totally bizarre Glee clip which is hard to describe – is it a tribute song, an ode to Matthew Morrison… funny? What the heck is Sofia Vergara from Modern Family doing in there? (she at least gets the one good line of the clip) Why are a handful of the Glee cast interspersed with the clip’s leads? Is this song meant to do anything other than promote the upcoming Spring season?
If this is what Funny or Die is indeed becoming it truly is time for the site to die!
Check the nonsense out below…
For those of you missing both The Walking Dead AND Mad Men – check out this just released video spoof from the guys at Team Unicorn…
It’s a simple premise – a holiday guide for defending your home from zombies, shot in the style of a 1950′s PSA (I shot one myself a few years back for a hellish pilot I worked on!)
To be honest I think the clip goes on too long and could do with a faster pace – but it looks great and there’s some nice moments along the way. Plus it’s good to feature a video that doesn’t always come from the Funny Or Die / College Humor teams who have started confusing celebrity guest spots with actual comedy…
2011 looks to be another big year for zombies with a super-sized season 2 of The Walking Dead at Halloween and the movie version of Pride And Prejudice And Zombies – reportedly starring either Natalie Portman or Anne Hathaway as Elizabeth Bennett… so it looks like zombies really are the new vampires…
Here’s the Zombie Holiday clip… enjoy!

THE TRON CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
Dec 20th
Since the TV year is coming to a close it’s slim pickings on the clips front! But this video from the Funny Or Die guys made me smile – in concept at least…
With Tron: Legacy in movie theaters (and under-performing if the first weekend grosses are any indication), FOD presents the Tron Christmas Special – obviously inspired by the infamously awful Star Wars Holiday Special from 1978.
It’s a fun idea and starts off well – but for me the clip could have been a LOT cleverer and funnier. There’s certainly no shortage of material to work with. Still I did smile at the hokey 80′s graphics and the ‘appearance’ of OJ Simpson…
But what do you think? Funny – or a missed opportunity? And have you been to see the Tron update yet? Start commenting everyone…

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2: THE REAL TRAILER
Oct 5th
This is good – and spot on!
Check out what the TV trailer for Paranormal Activity 2 would REALLY look like if the film-makers were being totally honest with moviegoers… (it’s from the folks at Funny Or Die / The Midnight Show)
I have to say I totally agree. I’m a HUGE horror movie fan – and actually loved The Blair Witch Project – but I just found Paranormal Activity a complete snooze. Nothing happened, the pacing was leaden and it’s really hard to believe in a ‘documentary’ format when the movies stars are on the front cover of Entertainment Weekly.
Well now we have Paranormal Activity 2 and I can’t believe how many people are getting worked up over the trailers. Perez Hilton seems to be beside himself with fear when commenting on the film (hmm do I sense a studio payoff here!) – and the film seems to be using exactly the same tricks and gimmicks as the original…
So please – if you were scared by PA1 – do tell me why… And are you looking forward to the sequel – or are we looking at another Blair Witch 2: Book Of Shadows (wow, remember that turkey!) Start weighing in…

COOL CLIP: WELCOME FRESHMEN WITH FRED WILLARD
Sep 12th
There are some people out there who you only have to look at to break into a smile. Jane Lynch, Ellen Degeneres, Joan Rivers – for me all three have such great comedy timing, personalities and unique style that every time they take to a stage a good time is guaranteed…
And here’s another talent who just has that comedy ‘it’ factor – Fred Willard!
You probably know Fred from his string of Christopher Guest mockumentaries – Best In Show, Spinal Tap and A Mighty Wind for example, or Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, or more recently as Phil’s dad on Modern Family. For me Willard always brings the laughs and makes any movie or series he appears in instantly better….
Well the guys at Funny or Die obviously agree since they’ve teamed up with Willard for this fun video clip – a Freshman Orientation Video with Fred as the Dean of Students… it’s awkward, bizarre and just my type of humor…
Check it out – and let us know what you think? Are you Willard fans and what other shows would you like to see him on?

THE SPIRIT SEEKER
Sep 9th
Check out this ghost-hunting spoof from the folks at Funny or Die, poking fun at all the paranormal shows currently polluting our screens.
As regular Remote Patrolled readers will know, I’m not a huge fan of these supernatural series – they’re essentially the same show every week and are full of cliches (infra-red cameras, sudden changes in temperature, ‘did you hear that?’) I honestly don’t understand the appeal of the shows – especially as they NEVER capture anything even remotely resembling supernatural activity on screen. But still people watch…
Anyway that’s the world this spoof teaser is parodying, via ‘Spirit Seeker‘ Sam Bell, her assistant Rob Isley and son Kyle. It’s a nice concept and I smiled a couple of times, especially at the spot on way TV networks choose their characters (real estate agent turned ghost hunter!) That said supernatural shows are an easy target and this take off barely scratches the surface. It could have been a lot smarter – and sharper…
But what do you think? Did you laugh at The Spirit Seeker? And what do you think of all the supernatural series out there…?

1-555-LIVE-LYNX
Aug 31st
Here’s a very silly, but quite funny, video from the guys at Funny or Die, for a fictional premium rate phone-line – Live Lynx…
Obviously this is a very easy topic for comedy – as proven by the Lez Chat video we recently posted (also from the Funny or Die guys). But I must admit this one did make me chuckle a few times. There’s just something about this kind of ‘so bad it’s good’ comedy that makes me laugh (hence my love for films like Soapdish and the criminally under-rated Drop Dead Gorgeous)
The actress is called Deborah S. Craig and she has limited credits – but I suspect she’ll see a spike in interest following this commercial… But once again Deborah doesn’t have a website to promote herself (this is exactly why I wrote my piece – Why Actors Need To Get Their Act Together) I’m amazed by how many people just don’t understand the implications of the social media world and how to use it to promote themselves…
Anyway – rant over… check out the Live Lynx clip below… did it make you laugh?
