Cool Commercial: Old Spice Goes International!
Apr 30th
Wow, Old Spice really are on a roll at the moment aren’t they.
Hot on the heels of the brand’s iconic American adverts featuring Isiaih Mustafa playing The Man Your Man Could Smell Like – check out this latest international commercial using the same concept but a different model.
The commercial is part of the new Old Spice Danger Zone campaign and features actor Neal Bledsoe (Ugly Betty) making his way through a jungle wilderness battling trucks, alligators and snakes…
It’s as slick and fun as the US campaign – so check it out below!

Crazy Commercials: Virgin Mobile Stalker Ad
Feb 19th
Check out the latest advertising campaign for Virgin Mobile – a clear attempt to corner the bunny boiler market!
As usual Virgin’s adverts are certainly memorable and will get people talking…
Here’s the first two commercials below, featuring a couple of crazies stalking their ‘boyfriends’ via their cell phones…
They’re kind of creepy, kind of funny and definitely not your typical mobile phone advert… but will they entice you to buy a Virgin mobile…?
Enjoy!

Cool Super Bowl Commercial: Best Buy, Ozzy Osbourne and Justin Bieber!
Feb 7th
One more Super Bowl advert – and this one’s for retail chain Best Buy…
Check out Ozzy Osbourne in action, getting confused by the store’s rapidly changing technology and finding himself replaced by a younger spokesperson, Justin Bieber.
It’s a really good spot, playing off Ozzy’s recent ‘who the f*** is Justin Bieber’ interview quote. Plus great punchline at the end with Ozzy, Sharon and a heavily made up Justin. Darn, between this advert and his new, Never Say Never, single I’m actually starting to quite like BIeber…
Check the clip out below – and weigh in with your favorite Super Bowl spot…

Cool Super Bowl Commercial: Go Daddy’s New Girl – Joan Rivers
Feb 7th
Last year it was Betty White – now it’s Joan Rivers turn to get some Superbowl glory…
Check out the spot for Go Daddy, featuring Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels and race driver Danica Patrick as they introduce the new ‘it’ girl for the brand… an old face with a whole new look, Joan Rivers…
Last year’s Go Daddy advert, featuring a flamboyant gay guy called Lola, was banned – but this year the company managed to make headlines and stay on the air!
Here’s Joan in action… love her!

Cool Super Bowl Commercial: Volkswagen Meets Darth Vader
Feb 7th
Unlike the rest of America I checked out on much of last night’s Super Bowl… holding out for the post show edition of Glee instead (read my Quick Take here!)
But as usual it was hard to avoid the heavily hyped adverts across the show, with 30 second spots going for a cool $3 million. I actually question if the spots are actually worth that much in this social media age but I guess the fact that we’re all covering the commercials means they were…
Critical responses are varied as usual, but here’s the one advert EVERYONE is talking about – especially the Today show which seems to have gone crazy for the spot.
The advert is for Volkswagen and features a pint sized Darth Vader trying to channel the ‘force’ before he gets a little extra help from his dad.
It’s very sweet, though I can’t help but feel it’s a tad outdated in 2011… but never mind, Volkswagen have certainly got their monies worth in terms of coverage… enjoy!

Banned In Britain: Yves Saint Laurent’s Belle D’Opium
Feb 4th
Another week, another banned commercial!
Check out this advert for Yves Saint Laurent’s Belle D’Opium which was recently banned in the UK because the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA or should that be ASS?) decided the woman’s actions ‘simulated drug use’.
Seriously? All I can see is a twenty-something Kim Basinger lookalike trying out for a new Shakira video. The advert is sexy and provocative – but it’s also way too long and honestly kind of boring. I have a feeling Yves Saint Laurent might actually quite like the controversy cause speaking bluntly the commercial ain’t all that great…
But what do you think? Do you see any suggestions of drug use? And do you think the spot should be banned??
Start weighing in guys…

Cool Commercial: Lurpak Butter
Jan 24th
Okay – any of you out there feeling hungry – get ready to start drooling!
Check out this amazing advert for Lurpak butter, a Danish brand with a great creamy taste that I was a big fan of when I lived back in the UK (sadly I can no longer get it here in the US)
But even if you don’t know the brand you’ve got to love this advert. Imagine Martin Scorsese directing a butter commercial and you’ll get the idea. It reminds me a lot of the opening titles to Dexter (below). Talk about cinematic…
Check out the clip below… and tell me if it doesn’t get you licking your lips…

BANNED IN ITALY: RENAULT’S LESBIAN CAR COMMERCIAL
Dec 18th
We’ve posted a few banned adverts up here on Remote Patrolled over the months – but I have to say this must be one of the most surprising…
Check out the latest Italian advert for the Renault Twingo, featuring a potential lesbian hook-up and a spot of carjacking…
The commercial was all set to air on Italian TV until beleaguered Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi banned the clip from the channels he owns via his Mediaset empire. And then state television network TV RAI also canceled the commercial.
Uh – am I missing something here? Nothing happens in this clip – it’s not like the two ladies even get it on! And even if they did – how on earth is that controversial in 2010?
And now some gay groups are also finding fault with the commercial – calling it “offensive to lesbians”. Really, cause I’m gay and I’m not in the least bit offended!
But what do you think? Can you see any reason why the advert was banned… start commenting everyone….

COOL COMMERCIAL: KEVIN BACON STALKS HIMSELF!
Dec 2nd
Check out this neat little commercial for ‘Logitech Revue‘, a service offered by Google TV that helps you find your favorite shows quickly.
Someone decided to pay the big bucks to Kevin Bacon, who bizarrely plays a Kevin Bacon stalker obsessed with the prolific movie star.
It’s a fun idea and good to see Bacon tackling some comedy – for me he often comes across as over-serious in interviews and appearances. And many of his recent films such as Frost / Nixon, Taking Chance and The Woodsman haven’t exactly been laughfests…
Of course it’s not the first time Kevin Bacon has had a stalker – Will and Grace fans might remember the episode where Sean Hayes’ Jack famously tracked the actor down and became his assistant…
Personally I think Bacon should go the route of his wife Kyra Sedgwick and head up his own TV show – in fact I wouldn’t be at all surprised if such a project was in the works…
Anyway here’s the clip – enjoy!
COOL COMMERCIAL: PEPSI MAX AND SNOOP DOGG
Nov 4th
Check out the latest advert in the never-ending cola wars (are they still going on?)
Two deliverymen battle over who can build the biggest and best store display – one representing Coke Zero, the other Pepsi Max... but the Pepsi guy gets the upper hand when he unleashes his secret weapon – Snoop Dogg!
Personally I’m a diet soda kind of guy and don’t really get the appeal of either drink – but it’s a fun advert. I must say I find the presence of Snoop Dogg amusing though – remember how Pepsi ran a mile from Madonna in the late 80′s following her controversial Like A Prayer video – and yet nowadays it’s fine to use Snoop Dogg, who’s managed a remarkable transformation from X rated rapped to family friendly pitchman… bizarre!
Anyway check the commercial out below….
