TRUE BLOOD: TRUEBIES AND NEWBIES
Jun 20th
The HBO True Blood promotion juggernaut continues…
Ahead of tonight’s second episode (can Bill escape the wolf-pack, what’s Jessica going to do with that body, can Jason get his sexual mojo back) here’s a selection of fun videos the show’s makers have put together whereby a seasoned True Blood star interviews a new cast member…
They’re calling them Truebies and Newbies… and it just goes to show how many new characters are on the way in the weeks to come. Also interesting to hear the show’s cast talking in their actual accents (how funny that so many of True Blood’s stars are played by foreign actors)
Definitely worth checking out if you’re a True Blood devotee… so which new character are you most excited about seeing?
TRUE BLOOD: THE SNOOP DOGG VIDEO
Jun 18th
What were they thinking?
HBO – you have the hottest show on TV right now. Ratings are up season to season, your cast’s faces are everywhere, critics and audiences love your show… and you allow this!
Who on earth gave permission to Snoop Dogg to record a song tribute to True Blood heroine Sookie Stackhouse? Not only is the song pretty poor (quick name 5 memorable Snoop Dogg hits – exactly) – but HBO have clearly authorized the clip as it features footage from the show and appears to have been shot on the iconic Merlot’s lot!
I hate to use the phrase ‘Jumping The Shark’ – but this is a classic case… let’s just hope the song doesn’t take off to limit the damage…
TRUE BLOOD: SASS AND ASS!
Jun 14th
In case you missed it yesterday here’s a few of the sexiest – and scariest – moments from last night’s True Blood premiere!
As I mentioned in my Quick Take, last night’s show was awash with sex and violence – and I loved every MA rated moment of it! It’s great to see a show on TV that doesn’t have to be sanitized for network standards and loves to push the envelope!
First up we’ve Vampire Queen Sophie Anne turning the screws on Eric… this was Sophie’s best moment to date – and great to see Evan Rachel Wood finally sinking her teeth into the role after a shaky first season…
QUICK TAKE: TRUE BLOOD’S ‘BAD BLOOD’
Jun 14th
Finally!
After months of breathless anticipation True Blood stormed back onto our screens last night with an action packed episode, picking up mere moments after the finale of Season 2.
Actually, ‘packed’ would be a good description of last night’s show as boy was there a lot going on! In the space of a tightly filled hour we had: Bill kidnapped by a pack of werewolves before finally escaping only to be cornered again; Tara distraught over Eggs’ death and attempting suicide; Eric and the vampire Queen trying not to get caught for their V-dealing escapades; Jason fighting his guilt over Eggs’ death and trying to act like his old horndog self again; Sam tracking down his biological family; Jessica trying to revive the body of the trucker she murdered at the end of Season 2 and Pam at her slinkiest and sexiest best!
That’s a lot of plot going on, and to be honest, probably a little too much! That said the episode juggled all the storylines well and none of the cast seemed shortchanged. I just worry how effectively the series will be able to tie all these different elements together. Remember Season 2 had just two main plots – the anti-vampire More >
COMING SOON: THE GATES
Jun 12th
When Does It Start: Sunday June 20th at 10pm / 9c on ABC
In a nutshell: ABC goes gothic with a glossy, soapy take on the vampire genre…
What’s It About: Nick and Sarah are an ordinary couple, moving with their teenage son, Charlie, to an exclusive gated community. But all is not what it seems behind the fancy façade – turns out some of their neighbors are vampires – and there’s a whole lot of trouble about to go down. Oh and there’s a werewolf in there too!
BOARDWALK EMPIRE: THE TRAILERS
Jun 12th
Plus – My Meeting With Marty Scorsese!
Hot on the heels of the success of True Blood – the newly reinvigorated HBO is pulling out the big guns, literally, in September with the eagerly anticipated Boardwalk Empire.
What do you need to know? It’s set in 1920′s Atlantic City. Stars Steve Buscemi, Michaell Pitt (seriously twisted in Funny Games and Murder By Numbers) and Kelly MacDonald (No Country For Old Men). It’s from Terence Winter, a key writer on The Sopranos. And most of all it’s Executive Produced by Michael Scorsese, who also directs the pilot (as well as Mark Wahlberg – but we’ll draw a veil over his involvement)
Now slight confession here – I’m not the biggest Scorsese fan out there. I live his movies but I tend not to love them… my favorite is actually Cape Fear – though I did like The Aviator and Casino a lot. But no one can doubt Scorsese’s talent and sheer love of cinema – and when someone like him oversees a TV series it’s definitely worth checking out…
On a personal level I actually interviewed Scorsese myself back in 2006 for a movie special I was working on (which aired on the History Channel). More >
PILLARS OF THE EARTH – THE TRAILER
Jun 9th
Here’s the trailer for the brand new mini-series, The Pillars of the Earth, which it’s just been announced, will premiere on Starz on July 23rd.
Now ordinarily I wouldn’t get too excited by an upcoming Starz series. I don’t really get the appeal of Spartacus, except as soft core porn, Crash has had awful reviews and I’m afraid has passed me by, and Party Down’s ratings are minuscule despite some of its big name stars. But Pillars has to rank as one of my most eagerly anticipated summer series.
In case you don’t know the backstory, Pillars of the Earth is based on the 1989 bestseller by Ken Follett. In England it’s been beloved for years, but a couple of years Oprah picked it for her Book Club selection and US sales went through the roof.
Now I’m a big Oprah fan, but the thought of reading a 1,000 page book about the building of a cathedral in 12th century England didn’t exactly scream ‘must read’ status. But I figured I’d take Oprah’s word for it – and I’m so glad I did. Pillars is absolutely AMAZING. You won’t believe how quickly you’ll read a book this long (I think I finished it More >
BREAKING BAD: THE FINAL SHOCKING SCENE…
Jun 7th
For those of you not watching the MTV Movie Awards last night, Breaking Bad aired its penultimate episode last night with a much talked about – and rather violent – ending…
After a relapse, Jesse tries to tackle a pair of gun wielding thugs responsible for his friend’s death.
But before the two sides clash, Walt comes to the rescue, smashing into the duo with his SUV – and then shooting the sole survivor in the head…
Walt’s final word to his friend? ‘Run’… but what will happen next…?
Definitely a terrific way to set up the season finale… what did you think?
TRUE BLOOD: BLOODY BRILLIANT
Jun 6th
The wait is almost over.
On June 13th everyone’s favorite summer series (okay maybe exempting Mad Men but it’s definitely a close call!) will be back for a third fabulous season. Suddenly the absence of 24 and Desperate Housewives doesn’t seem quite so painful…
Over the last few weeks I’ve been posting plenty of trailers, posters and minisodes to promote the upcoming season. And if I haven’t made it crystal clear – I am super excited for more episodes of the show. At its best True Blood is daring, unique, scary, sexy and simply unlike any other show on TV.
But no show is perfect and as I often do on Remote Patrolled I’d like to throw in my ten cents before the show returns – offering the things I’d like to see, and those I’d rather not – in the upcoming episodes. So if you’re all sitting comfortably, grab yourself a bottle of Tru Blood, and enjoy – my Top 7 Tips To Keep True Blood On Top…
TRUE BLOOD: THE FINAL TRAILER!
Jun 2nd
Yep – it’s ANOTHER True Blood trailer! I’ve lost count of how many I’ve posted over the last couple of months…
Thankfully they’ve saved the best for last – this one shows even more action, is even sexier, and suggests Season 3 is going to be the best season to date!
Vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters – and more Pam!
Check out the new and extended trailer below…
